This wine is made from grapes from our best vineyards in Rioja Alta. The date of harvest is determined by periodic analysis and tasting of the grapes, which indicate the optimum state of ripeness. After a careful selection in the vineyard and in the winery, the grapes go into oak vats where the alcoholic fermentation will take place. The devatting is carried out in new French oak barrels where the malolactic fermentation takes place and its subsequent ageing for 18 months.

General Information

Villabuena de Álava, where part of the family was already linked to the world of viticulture, was the chosen village where an innovative winery was built, focused on the production of quality wines. The extensive knowledge of the hotel and catering industry led Gonzalo Antón to conceive a wine, Izadi, which soon became one of the most appreciated in the world of gastronomy. At the same time, the incorporation of new winemaking techniques and his great desire to continually improve have created his own style, which has become consolidated over time. In the year 2000, the incorporation of his son, Lalo Antón, to the company, boosted sales abroad, as well as the expansion of the company, which, under the name of Artevino, tackled the projects of Finca Villacreces (D.O. Ribera del Duero), Bodegas Vetus (D.O. Toro) and Orben (D.O.Ca. Rioja).

General Information

The first bibliographical data on the existence of this estate on the banks of the Duero belong to its first settler, the Franciscan friar Pedro de Villacreces, from whom it takes its name. Along with him, a group of clergymen, including San Pedro Regalado, patron saint of Valladolid, settled in that privileged moorland to dedicate themselves to prayer and the cultivation of the land, which already had a small vineyard for their own consumption and that of nearby monasteries. For several centuries, Villacreces was a retreat centre for Franciscan hermits dedicated to reflection and penance, as well as field work and the observation of nature. With the arrival of the disentailment of Mendizábal, in 1836, these lands passed into private hands, specifically to the Marquisate of Teodosio Alonso-Pesquera, Senator of the Kingdom with Alfonso XIII, who shortly afterwards granted a royal concession for which Finca Villacreces has rights over the water of the Duero.

General Information

Year rated as very good by the Rioja Regulatory Council. Despite suffering a slight frost in mid-April and a hailstorm at the beginning of July which caused some damage to "Viña Tondonia", the harvest obtained in the 2006 vintage in all our vineyards was slightly higher than that of 2005. As in 2005, in 2006 there was an advance in the sprouting of the vineyard which was maintained throughout the entire vegetative cycle, until the harvest that began on September 25 in "Viña Gravonia" with the white varieties, on October 2 in "Viña Tondonia" for the red varieties. The grapes were harvested normally, despite the light but persistent rain that fell during those days and did not have a negative impact on the quality of the harvest, which for us was very good, thanks to the excellent health of the bunches that arrived on those dates. The grapes entered the winery very healthy, with an average grade of 12.8, very balanced and with a good concentration of coloring matter, characteristics that are essential to produce wines with a vocation for aging, as are all those of our House.

General Information

Red wine made with very old visas of scarce production. Grapes of the Tempranillo variety selected by hand, grain by grain, using selection and vibration tables. Long pre-fermentation macerations in wooden vats that allow all the primary aromas to be extracted from the grapes. Once the alcoholic fermentation is complete, the wine is then pressed using a vertical press, especially for this wine. The wines, together with their lees, are placed in new French oak barrels which are then placed in special rooms at temperatures of around 20° to carry out the malolactic fermentation. Once this phase is over, all the barrels are placed in a controlled gallery protected from the outside weather, which in the winter months is harsh, often reaching temperatures below zero. All the barrels are regularly checked by our own laboratory staff, and a tasting panel decides how long this wine will remain in the barrel.
