General information
In the last 20 years, more than 100,000 hectares of the Garnacha variety have been uprooted in Spain. In the Rioja Qualified Denomination of Origin, Grenache has gone from assuming 39% of the total vineyard in 1973 to 8% in 2015.
For the first time in history, we will be able to enjoy six wines made with the Garnacha variety, from six unique vineyards, with ages close to 100 years, which have been selected for their special characteristics of orientation, exposure and type of soil . We are talking about historic, unrepeatable vineyards, cultivated by more than three generations of "heroic" winemakers who have decided to maintain the cultivation of these vineyards despite their zero economic profitability. We have in our hands the wine-growing history of Rioja expressed through the terroir, that mixture of soil and climate, which is the essence of great wines.
In this case we are faced with the same variety, the same production system (fermentation in 500-liter barrels), the same aging (eleven months in French Troncais oak), the same wine-growing area (Alto Valle del Najerilla, one of the coldest areas of Rioja) and a single variable: the terroir.
The grapes of six winegrowers have been made, only 600 bottles of each, due to their low production
Tasting Notes Peña El Gato Natural
On the nose there is a delicious and fresh raspberry and strawberry aroma. In the mouth it is very complex and has pleasant silky and elegant tannins that combined with good acidity make it appetizing and persistent and with a long finish. A totally natural wine with a low production and worth trying
