The water reserves of the winter allowed that, despite the strong heat and drought of the summer, the grape reached the end of the cycle adequately. The September rains slowed down ripening and favored the alcoholic and phenolic balance of the grape. It was a decisive turning point since, from there, the weather was very favorable until the end of the vintage.
The Tempranillo grape (80%) comes from our 30-year-old La Cuesta y Montecillo farms, located in Fuenmayor and Cenicero, and Garnacha (20%) comes from La Pedriza in Tudelilla (RiojaBaja) at 550 m above sea level. This 67-hectare farm has unbeatable conditions for the cultivation of this variety.
The vines are planted on very poor soil covered with boulders that, with yields of less than 5,000 kg / ha, offers us a highly typical grape. The grape was picked by hand in mid-October and transported in refrigerated trucks to the winery. The alcoholic fermentation was carried out naturally and at a controlled temperature.
The malolactic ended at the end of the year. In March 2010, the wine went into separate American oak barrels: Tempranillo for 36 months, with six manual racking in 4-year-old barrels, and Garnacha for 30 months, with 5 manual racking, in 2-year barrels. and 3 wines. After the final coupage, it was bottled in May 2014.
