Coleccion Vivanco Parcelas Maturana 2014
100% Maturana Ink.
PRODUCTION YEAR 2014
The Maturana Tinta is a native variety from La Rioja that is not grown anywhere else in the world. Recovered after years of work and research, it has a small, compact cluster and small berries. Very sensitive to botrytis, budbreak is late, but ripening is early.
Manual harvest in small boxes of ten kilograms capacity. Cooling in a cold chamber until the temperature of the grapes reaches 3 °C. Double selection of bunches and berries, with a soft destemming and crushing. Gravity encasing in French oak vats with no pumping and separate vinification of the plots. Cold maceration and fermentation for 20 days with native yeasts. Gravity blending into new and second year French oak barrels for malolactic fermentation.
14 months of stay in these barrels of different cooperages, toasts and origins, without racking, remaining with its lees until bottling and making periodic batonage during the first four months. The wine is bottled without filtering or clarifying so that small precipitations of natural origin may appear over time.
Our bottle is inspired by an original 18th century bottle that can be visited at the Vivanco Museum of Wine Culture.
Purple red colour with a very high layer, with a very marked violet rim. Spicy aromas, with black fruit, pepper, cloves, mulberry leaves, all on a mineral and underbrush background. In the mouth it is very balsamic, mineral, with spicy sensations (pepper, rose flower, cumin, clove), with an elegant, vibrant and long aftertaste.
All types of grilled meats, roasts, cheeses and game dishes.
