Marques de Griñon Graciano 2012
TIPO DE VINO
Red wine for aging.
20 months in French oak barrels from different cooperages.
14.5 % Vol.
Formed by a subsoil of limestone originating in the cretaceous period of 2 or more meters deep. On it rests a thin layer of clay of only about 15 cm. This structure, due to its porosity and drainage, is considered internationally (Borgoña, etc.) as ideal for the production of great wines, characterized by the finesse of its tannins.
Continental type, as corresponds to the central plateau of the Iberian Peninsula. The contrasts are very marked, not only between the cold winters and the long summer, but also between night and day. The vineyards are located 500m above sea level. It is a climate considered ideal for vine cultivation.
Made from a pioneering Graciano vineyard in Castilla La Mancha. We have used care and novelties (such as high density or no previous preparation of the soil for planting) aimed at obtaining maximum expression of the terroir of Dominio de Valdepusa, which has remained in the family of the Marquis de Griñón since 1292. A simple Guyot, adapted to our environment, helps us to achieve a great balance in the lighting of clusters and leaves. In this vineyard, which was advised by the prestigious agronomist Claude Bourgignon, we have experimented with cultivation methods that prioritize the ecological balance of the land; for example, we provide a mulching of straw to minimize irrigation, while maintaining all the microbiological life, flora and fauna of the soil.
Harvested by hand, with an exhaustive selection of the best bunches both in the field and at reception. We work in a “personalized” oenology, with minimal intervention and sensitive to the unique characteristics of this vineyard. The wine is aged for 20 months in new and semi-new French oak barrels.
NOTAS DE CATA
The result of all the singularities described is a wine of great personality. Faithful to its origin, it shares with the other varieties the character of our estate, being at the same time a tremendously original wine from this first vintage 2010 that we now present. With a very intense color, still with some violet rim and even jet. At the beginning velvety, it has a great mouth passage thanks to the structure of its tannins, perfectly polished and integrated with those provided by the selected casks (French oak and very light toasted) in its aging. An intense aroma of berries (blackberries) gives way to a pleasant and refreshing citrus sensation (orange peel). The wine is subtly persistent, offering in its aromatic harmony memories of graphite, cocoa, etc. Absolutely attractive today, the wine guess its great potential for aging (10-15 years).
